My UX origin story

My UX origin story

I first flew at 9 months old, when my parents took me to Turkey to visit family. Every summer after, I'd spend three months with my grandmother on the Mediterranean beaches in Bodrum, immersed in the culture and people. That early exposure to different walks of life drew me to international relations, and I became president of my high school's Amnesty International club. But I realized it wasn't politics that excited me, it was people.

I also loved art and design, so when I found UX, it felt like a perfect synergy. I found joy in understanding human behavior, thoughts, and emotions, and in creating things that made people's lives better, whether a mobile app helping someone manage type 1 diabetes or a web app that brings communities together. That versatility, and the chance to positively impact millions of people, is what made me fall in love with UX.

Now that I have been working in the field in both consulting and startup spaces, what has kept me curious and intrigued is the constant fluctuation of the field and the new challenges and problems that come with the ever-changing, dynamic nature of UX. I love problem solving, I love working in ambiguity, and creating an entire product out of just a few ideas. It's what keeps my brain engaged and my curiosity piqued.

When im OOO

When im OOO

When I'm not solving wicked problems and vibe coding at work, you can probably find me outside in nature. I grew up in Washington, so I naturally developed an affinity for it, whether skiing, hiking, or lounging by the beach.

I also love to travel. The coolest place I've been recently is Peru, where we hiked Machu Picchu, visited Humantay Bay, and rode ATVs through the Red Valley. My favorite part was how diverse the landscape was. The same country that has breathtaking mountains at altitudes as high as Everest base camp is also home to parts of the Amazon jungle and the desert. The alpacas everywhere were a huge plus, too.

On top of that, I'm a huge animal lover. My entire algorithm is just cute animal videos. On weekends, I like to volunteer at the local cat shelter, helping out the senior and disabled kitties.
